A couple months ago, I was on a sleepover with friends. We all go to the Same Catholic school. The girls, not being as religious as me, decided to make a gossip circle. Soon it turned into talking about God and religion. One of the girls and my dear friend said she "doesn't like God because of what He said girls can't do," I tried to inform her this was incorrect, but she wouldn't hear it. Another girl said, "if God loves us, why would He send us to Hell?" There was nothing I could say to get the girls to understand this was not the case. Soon they started to become worried that God would send murderers after us to punish us. What should I have said?

Hi Mercy! This is a very good question! It seems to have a few different components so I will first answer the overarching question "Is God mean?"
1 John 4:8 says, "...God is Love", God is so loving that He actually gave us the definition of Love so we would not have to scratch our heads wondering. "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant," 1 Corinthians 13:4
The next few verses goes on to add to this and elaborate on it. Form verse 4, it had mentioned that love is kind. If God is love, and love is kind, then you could also say that God is kind. God…
“If God loves us, why would He send us to Hell?”
This is a question that many struggle with. However, if we prayerfully seek answers in God’s Word, we can find answers.
God does not wish us to go to Hell. If so, why would He send His Son as a sacrifice to cleanse us of our sins? Our sins are what keep us from our perfect Creator, so He made a way to rid us of them forever, and let us stay in His eternal glory once we leave this earth. Yet, some hang onto their sins, and “they have rejected the law of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies; they have despised the word of the Holy One of…
Ok, so if she was confused about women becoming priests, this might help. It may seem like there are a lot of negatives about women in the Bible but there are more positives. Look at the Proverbs 31 wife. God made girls different for a reason. We are more hospitable and can make people feel more comfortable. This is really important when sharing God’s word. A lot of men don’t have this, but they have talents to better serve God in a different way. In the end, we need to have faith that God has given us our gender and talents for a reason. We can ask Him to show us how we can best serve Him. Does this answer…
I believe He is the God of love and peace and mercy. It's wickedness God hates. Those who love and follow him, He blesses and makes their paths straight, but those who refuse to obey, He curses to trip and fall. I don't believe God punishes people exactly, but sometimes when we stray from the path, out of love He may send a storm upon us. To know the worth of the anchor we have to feel the storm, and sometimes you have to make a commotion when you want to get someone's attention. God may give as He takes away, He teaches, and He chastens.
I hope this may give you some answers to your questions : )
Can you clarify what your friend thinks woman can’t do?
As for God punishing us, I don’t believe He does. We either except the salvation God offers us, or we don’t and go to hell. Either way, it is our choice.
