Hey, guys, Pastor Joel Pickett (one of my youth pastors), has decided to share what is his number one piece of advice about sharing the gospel. I hope you enjoy reading his wisdom as much as I did! Photo credit to Dawid Zewila from Unsplash.

As a youth pastor I have heard a variety of fears expressed from students regarding sharing the gospel over the years. I have found that there is often a pressure students put on themselves to save the person they are talking to. There is this sense that they have to have all the answers to all the questions. However, we are not saviors but messengers. Our job is to point to the One and Only Savior by simply sharing the Word of God.
Paul said it like this in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, “And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
This passage makes it clear that the power to save does not come from the exact words that we use or the persuading way something is said but the Word of God by the Spirit of God in the heart of any person who hears.
I like how Paul says here that he focused simply on Christ and the Cross. And that is what our focus ought to be when sharing the gospel, Jesus Christ & Him crucified. If we know that, we know enough to step up to be used by the Savior to be His messenger.
